Hell’s Kitchen opens in Germany, Italy

HellsKitchenDSC02447Hell’s Kitchen, the cooking format chef Gordon Ramsay made famous in the US, is being remade by broadcasters in Germany and Italy, TBI has learned.

German commercial channel Sat.1 and Italian pay TV channel Sky Uno HD have commissioned local versions of the ITV Studios Global Entertainment-distributed format.

The show follows a high-profile perfectionist chefs who lay their reputations on the line by attempting to instil a love of cooking in amateur cooks.

In Germany, ITV Studios Germany will produce a 6x120mins series that will launch this year, with Michelin-starred chef Frank Rosin (pictured) hosting. Ines Bamfaste is executive producing.

The Italian remake has Zodiak Media-owned prodco Magnolia attached to produce a 16x60mins series ahead of a TX date later this year.

Having begun life in 2004 as series for UK commercial broadcaster ITV, it then travelled to US, with British host Ramsay moving across the Pond to front the remake for Fox. The American Kitchen was renewed for its 11th and 12th seasons and at least one season of the show has been acquired by every country in the world, ITVSGE claims.

Internationally, the format has been made in 15 territories, including France and Russia. “Hell’s Kitchen is one of our most popular reality programmes and these deals illustrate its enduring appeal and longevity,” said ITV Studios’ director, international formats Mike Beale.

ITVSGE’s senior sales executive, south-east EMEA, André Renaud, brokered the German deal.
