Discovery launching mystery and suspense channel

Discovery Networks Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEEMEA) is set to launch a new female-skewing mystery and suspense channel in the second quarter of 2014.

Discovery ID Xtra is due to roll out in as many as 105 markets across CEEMEA in 2014, according to Discovery Networks CEEMEA’s senior VP, head of channels Paul Welling, who said that “many of our largest operators have already signed up”.

“There is increased demand and opportunity in the market for factual mystery and suspense content which we have the experience and ability to fill,” added Welling, describing Discovery’s “ambitious” rollout plans for ID Xtra.

Discovery launched ID (fka Investigation Discovery) as a network in the US in 2012, and claims that in that time it has grown the channel from the number 50-ranked network for women aged 25-54 years old, to number seven today. The channel has since launched in international markets such as Poland.

The new ID Xtra network will be available in SD and HD and will air real-life mystery series, including new shows such as Poisoned Passions, Beauty Queen Murders, Secret Lives of Stepford Wives and A Crime to Remember.
