News brief: Syfy orders movie spin-off series Dominion

US cable network Syfy has ordered Dominion, a new original series based on the 2010 sci-fi movie of the same name.

Universal Cable Productions and Bold Films will make the show for the NBCU-owned cable net. It will be filmed in Cape Town, South Africa and follow a celestial battle between humans and angels.

Syfy has been upping the amount of originals it commissions and the Dominion news follows the order for Helix and success of multiplatform show Defiance.
