R. Kelly back for more Trapped in the Closet on IFC

R&B star R. Kelly is making new instalments of his cult ‘hip hopera’ Trapped in the Closet for IFC.

The US cable net will air the 33 previous episodes of the show in a Saturday access prime slot as part of the deal. R. Kelly will return as the main star of the series as well as being its creator, executive producer and codirector.

“R. Kelly is an enormously talented artist and his creativity is on full display in Trapped in the Closet,” says Jennifer Caserta, president and general manager of IFC. “We are fortunate to be his partner in this one-of-a-kind project that has captivated viewers and can’t wait to bring the next chapters of Trapped to IFC.”

The new episodes will be produced by Sylvester Films.

Trapped in the Closet was released between 2005 and 2012 and relays the soapy story following his being trapped in a cupboard after an illicit encounter. The episodes were released on R. Kelly record and DVD and also played on IFC.
