Mario Lopez secures NUVOtv development deal

US Hispanic English-language network NUVOtv has secured an overall production deal with actor-presenter Mario Lopez, who will front a new show for the channel’s 2014 schedule.

Lopez has created a dating-dance competition hybrid series, Salsa in the City (WT), which launches on the network next year in Q2. Lopez executive produces with Mark Schulman of 3 Arts Entertainment and Gil Lopez of Gordo Entertainment in association with JAAM Productions.

Lopez will develop a further three new series for the network.

The star, best known for teen series Saved By the Bell and as presenter of the US X Factor, already hosts Mario Lopez One-on-One for the channel and this has been given a second season.

“My creative goals are totally aligned with NUVOtv’s commitment to deliver culturally relevant programming for the English-speaking Latino audience,” said Lopez.

NUVOtv made headlines earlier this year when it tapped Latina music star Jennifer Lopez to become its chief content officer.
