Japan’s WOWOW in crowdsourced copro with PBS

Japanese pay TV platform WOWOW has continued its push into international coproduction with a crowdsourced documentary alongside PBS station WNET.

The doc, Sacred, is about humankind’s search for the divine over a 365-day period. It will use crowdsourced footage from around the world to show sacred and spiritual moments such as religious holidays, birthdays and weddings and is asking for submission to uploaded to a dedicated website.

Executive producers president emeritus of WNET, William Baker; WNET VP Stephen Segaller; and Julie Anderson (God is the Bigger Elvis).

WOWOW has recently moved into international coproduction by coming onboard the Wim Wenders-produced Cathedrals of Culture along with Arte, Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg, Final Cut for Real and Les Films d’Ici; and Cameron Carpenter: The Rebirth of Majesty with Berlin-based Boomtown Media and Sony Classical.

No broadcast date on Sacred has been set.
