Viacom retakes control of MTV in Czech Rep, Slovakia

Viacom International Media Networks is set to take the operational activities of MTV in the Czech Republic and Slovakia back in-house.

A spokesperson for VIMN confirmed the move to TBI sister publication DTVE and said the transition would take place from January 2014.

The news follows local press reports, claiming that the current operator of MTV in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Central European Media Enterprises-owned CET 21, had failed to extend its license and that MTV was looking to strengthen its presence in the market be assuming control.

Czech CET MTV launched in 2009, serving Czech and Slovakian audiences.

Earlier this year, VIMN re-launched the Russian version of MTV, following the end of its partnership with local media group ProfMedia late last year.
