HBO GO launches on Google’s Chromecast

ChromecastHBO’s catch-up service GO has launched on Chromecast, the internet giant’s digital media player.

The launch means that consumers with the Chromecast device, which is currently only available in the US, can watch signature HBO series including Game of Thrones, Girls and Boardwalk Empire.

Google announced the news in a blog post from Shanna Prevé, who’s job title was given as ‘head of content partnerships for Chromecast and Mother of Dragons in Training’.

Otto Berkes, chief technology officer, HBO said: “From the beginning, our goal has been to bring HBO GO to the devices where viewers want to watch it and Chromecast definitely falls into that category.”

Google launched Chromecast in July. It is effectively a low-price TV dongle that allows people to stream web content to their TV set. The device costs US$35 and plugs into the HDMI port.
