US cable channel Cinemax has acquired Outcast, the new series from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman (pictured).
Earlier this year Fox International Channels, Kirkman’s Skybound imprint at Image Comics and talent agency-come-producer Circle of Confusion inked a production pact and Outcast was developed as a direct result. FIC also shows Kirkman’s The Walking Dead on its international channels.
Based on the Kirkman comic book of the same name, the exorcism series will tell the apocalyptic tale of a young man, Kyle Barnes, investigating why he has, from a young age, been possessed by demons.
“Despite the success of The Walking Dead, Outcast is only my second foray into the horror genre. I think Kyle Barnes is every bit as compelling as [Andrew Lincoln’s lead character in The Walking Dead] Rick Grimes and demonic possession is way scarier than zombies – so this is going to be fun,” said Robert Kirkman.
Sharon Tal Yguado, executive VP of original development and scripted programming at FIC said: “Outcast is unlike anything on television and has the potential to become another global phenomenon.”
