French air traffic strike latest

Industrial action by the French air traffic controllers will go ahead on the last day of MIPCOM although Nice airport looks unlikely to be directly affected.

The French civil aviation authority has told airlines to expect disruptions today (October 10) and EasyJet said it has been asked to reduce the volume of its French flights by 30% and will cancel at least 50 flights as a result.

However, the industrial action is concentrated at the Paris airports Charles de Gaulle and Orly as well as Basel, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseilles and Toulouse. Nice is not on the list of affected airports EasyJet flies from although passengers transferring through one of the aforementioned sites are likely to be affected. There is also the possibility of delays to any flight travelling through French air space.

British Airways said it is “monitoring the situation closely” and there is the potential for disruption to flights from France or those crossing French air space.

The on-off threat of industrial action has caused a travel headache for MIPCOM delegates staying until the end of the market.
