PBS International seeks pre-sales for The Bloody Truth

The global sales arm of US pubcaster PBS is heading to MIPCOM to search for pre-buys for its latest slate, including a 1x52mins documentary on the origins of the AIDS epidemic.

TVI in Portugal, UR in Sweden, Czech TV, ERR in Estonia and YLE in Finland are already attached to The Bloody Truth, which is set to broadcast in the US.

Elsewhere, SBS in Australia is attached to upcoming film The Black Panthers, a 1x60mins doc from Stanley Nelson that tells the story of the controversial Black Panther party.

SBS has pre-bought another upcoming PBS doc, The Italian Americans, along with New Zealand’s Sky Network. The four-hour doc series explores the unique traits of the Italian American immigrant group and how Italian family traditions clash with US ideals.

PBS International is also launching The Real Jaws, a 1x60mins doc that heads to Australia to uncover the reasons behind a deadly spate of shark attacks; and the 6x60mins Sacred Journeys, in which host Bruce Feiler participats in religious pilgramages in India, Japan, France, Nigeria, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.

“MIPCOM is an excellent venue to discuss our projects in production,” said Tom Koch, VP of PBS International. “We look forward to meeting with commissioning editors searching for projects to adapt for their audiences and with buyers who want to lock into films early which helps fund production budgets thereby assuring that good films get made.”
