Twofour rights is bring Alex Polizzi to Cannes to promote its fact-ent series The Hotel Inspector.
A year after launch, Anthony Hughes, Twofour Rights’ commercial director says the UK indie’s decision to move into distribution is paying off. “We were doing the math and could see 30% of international sales going into the P+L of a [third party] distribution company,” he says. “It made sense to launch Twofour Rights given the confidence we had in our programming and the pipeline of programming coming through. And we thought we could work the programming a lot harder than if it was in the catalogue of one of the large distributors.”
At MIPCOM it will have new episodes of The Hotel Inspector (left), in which Polizzi helps struggling hotels turn their businesses around. Channel 5 greenlit a tenth season of the show in July, giving the Twofour team over 100 episodes to sell.
Other key titles for the market include 36x60mins Born to Kill which has been sold into over 80 territories with buyers including RTL for its German-language channels and Investigation Discovery in North and Latin America. In the same vein to the serial killer series, Twofour will also launch twelve part series Killing Spree at the market.
Twofour produces several shows with the TV arm of media buyer GroupM and codistributes them. In this category, it will be in Cannes with The Resort (aka Magaluf Weekender), the observational documentary series that follows teenagers on their first parent-free holiday in the titular Spanish holiday resort. ITV2 in the UK commissioned a second season of the show earlier this year.
As well as hotel inspection, serial killing and Brits abroad series, the distributor will also be preselling Harry’s South Pole Heroes, which will see the British royal and a team of soldiers with life-changing injuries attempt to walk the 335km (208 miles) to Antartica’s South Pole, as part of the South Pole Allied Challenge 2013. The doc will broadcast on ITV in 2014, while a 1x60mins version cut from highlights of the UK series and other exclusive material will go out on NBC.
