KiKA buys Nordic live-action preschool drama

Waffle HeartGerman children’s channel KiKA has acquired Waffle Heart, a live-action preschool drama sold by Nordic World.

KiKA now has exclusive German TV rights to the 7x20mins miniseries, which is based on Maria Parr’s best-selling book of the same name.

This marks the first international sale of the series, which was originally commissioned by public broadcaster NRK.

Waffle Heart tells the story of two nine year-olds who become friends in a small Norwegian village.

Sebastian Debertin, KiKA’s head of fiction, acquisition and coproduction, said: “KiKA is happy to have this miniseries in its portfolio, since the story is about the same values that KiKA stands for: friendship and understanding. Our audience will love the programme.”

Nordic World CEO Espen Huseby said: “Waffle Heart is one of those children’s dramas that comes along once in a generation. It’s funny, touching, exciting and beautiful to watch. And although the action takes place in a remote village in Norway, it explores universal themes that kids everywhere will recognise and relish.”
