Yahoo launches new video app

Yahoo has launched a new mobile video app called YahooScreen and has signed a deal with Viacom to add Comedy Central clips to the service.

Available now on iOS devices, the app is designed to make it easy for viewers to access content from Yahoo and its partners through a “simple, intuitive” interface, according to Yahoo director of product management Robby Stein.

The Viacom deal brings clips from shows like The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report to the app. Yahoo also has access to Saturday Night Live’s digital clip archive and said that, along with its own comedy line-up, will offer 1,000 hours of comedy.

“Heading home, turning the TV on and channel-surfing is something that a lot of us do every day. This daily experience is what we wanted to recreate with our new Yahoo Screen app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch,” said Stein.

“We want Yahoo Screen to be a place where you can customize your experience to your liking while continually discovering new things to watch and share. We hope to make Yahoo Screen the destination for the world’s best video creators and their awesome content,” he added.

Yahoo’s app portfolio also includes IntoNow, a second-screen app for people to engage around TV shows.

Last month ex-Channel 5, ITV and RTL executive Dawn Airey joined Yahoo as senior, VP, EMEA.
