Australian immigration format lands on German TV

Australia’s SBS has shopped a local version of its Go Back to Where You Came From format to its German counterpart ZDF.

The show takes people with trenchant views on immigration on a journey to see how refugees have reached their country. The original Australian version for SBS is produced by Cordell Jigsaw. It launched in 2011 and a second series followed in 2012.

In Germany the format – known locally as Auf der Flucht – Das Experiment (Fleeing – The Experiment) – will follow six Germans, all with firm views on the immigration debate, as they set out on a unique journey taking them to refugee camps and asylum seekers’ countries of origin.

The series has been made by local producer Doclights and launches tonight on the digital ZDFneo channel.

The German series follows TV2 Denmark’s local version titled Send Dem Hjem (Send Them Home), which premiered in February.
