CW plots Supernatural spin-off

US broadcast network The CW is reportedly working on a spin-off to its scripted series Supernatural.

The series will be introduced as a backdoor pilot featuring an as-yet unnamed character that will appear in the ninth season of Supernatural, according to reports coming out of San Diego’s Comic Con International event.

Neither The CW nor producer Warner Bros. Television could be contacted for confirmation before press time.

However, The CW is preparing to launch The Originals, a spin-off of its long-running hit The Vampire Diaries, later this year.

The new season of Supernatural launches on October 15, with Originals filing the preceding primetime slot.
