Former Aardman and BBC execs set up content business

Jesse-Cleverly-(L)-&-Miles-Bullough-(R)Aardman Animations’ former head of broadcast Miles Bullough and former BBC executive Jesse Cleverly have created Wildseed Studios, an ‘entertainment incubator’ that will seed fund a range of new content.

The new business is reaching out to established and emerging content creators and will invest up to an initial £10,000 in 50 new projects over the next three years with follow-on funding available thereafter.

It has already invested in two projects, an animated show for young adults based on the work of underground UK comic artist Ralph Kidson and a live-action sci-fi horror series from teenage writer Drew Casson.

The company describes itself as platform neutral.

‘A YouTube Channel will be a big part of what we do’ says co-founder and MD Miles Bullough, ‘but we are also working with creators who, for example, want to produce a mobile game first and that is really exciting for us where there is a great character at the heart of the game’.

Wildseed is actively seeking submissions from content producers and is specifically looking for ideas in the sci-fi/horror, animated sitcom, character comedy and kids spaces.

Bullough was at Aardman for nine years as head of broadcast and set up Aardman’s Rights and Digital divisions.

Cleverly has been running his own development company Connective Media for the past five years working. Prior to that he spent ten years at the BBC.
