Showrunner Dan Harmon is to return for the fifth season of NBC’s cult comedy Community, the US network has confirmed.
Harmon had exited the Sony Pictures Television-produced show a year ago under what was reported to be acrimonious circumstances but tweeted a week ago he was set to rejoin the programme, which is based on his personal experiences.
Yesterday, NBC issued a statement confirming he is now back, along with writer and producer Chris McKenna. Harmon will be showrunner and executive producer, while McKenna gets the exec producer credit.
The show, about a group of misfit students at an adult college, has rarely shone in the ratings but garnered much critically acclaim and a cult following globally. In May, NBC sprung a surprise by commissioning a fifth season.
