Komixx and Gotham team for Monster Republic

Kids and family content company Kommix has created a joint venture with Gotham Group, the US-based TV and film producer and management company.

The two companies have formed KG Entertainment. The LA-based business will develop and produce kids, youth and family content for various platforms.

The first project will be a live-action version of Monster Republic, the series of sci-fi novels from Hot House Fiction and published by Random House in some territories. Random House Children’s Screen Entertainment, itself a joint venture between the publisher and the Komixx, has rights to the project, which is billed as ‘teenage Terminator meets the X-Men’.

KGE will acquire other rights and work up new series and multiplatform content. The new partnership will, the companies said, also seek to take advantage of the UK film tax credit and the British Government’s recently announced UK creative industries tax credits for high end TV production and animation.

Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Gotham’s founder and CEO, said: “We look forward to creating together a broad range of distinctly original transmedia entertainment properties for the booming international youth marketplace.”
