NBC renews Hannibal

Hannibal1US broadcaster NBC has greenlit a second season of its Hannibal Lecter television series.

The network has given Hannibal a new 13-part run that will air no earlier than midseason. The first season has averaged about 4.7 million viewers, according to NBC citing Nielsen Media Research.

The pick up signifies the last scripted series order NBC will give for the new series.

The series is based on the psychotic psychologist character from Robert Harris’ novel Red Dragon, who was popularised in early 1990s feature film Silence of the Lambs.

It stars Mads Mikkelsen as Lecter and was created by Bryan Singer. Gaumont International Television, Dino de Laurentiis Company and Living Dead Guy Productions produce the show, along with Sony Pictures Television Networks, which co-commissioned the show.
