MTV adapting Scream for TV

MTV is developing a one-hour pilot based on the horror film franchise Scream, with the movie’s director Wes Craven lined up to join the project.

The Viacom-owned US cable channel is working on the project with Dimension Films, with discussions underway with “various” writers for a series that would launch in summer 2014. Diga Vision is attached to produce.

Craven, who directed all four Scream movies, is in talks to direct the pilot. The previous Scream film, Scream 4, hit cinemas in 2011.

MTV has also given the greenlight to one-hour docu-dream Generation Cryo, which looks at issues facing young people conceived through sperm donors; Nurse Nation (WT), which follows nine nurses in their twenties assigned to work in hospitals in cities they’ve never been to; and The Hook Up (WT), an afternoon dating series presented by Andrew Schulz of MTV2’s Guy Code.

Jersey Shore spin-off Snooki & JWOWW has been renewed for a third season.

Meanwhile, sister channel MTV2 has commissioned Guy Court, a half-hour comedy courtroom series in which MTV2 talent will judge whether men have broken the ‘Guy Code’; and renewed Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family.
