Netflix secures more Hasbro shows

NETFLIX, INC. AND HASBRO ANNOUNCE PROGRAMMING AGREEMENTNetflix has scored a deal to bring a pair of new shows from toyco Hasbro’s production studio to its US and Canadian platforms.

The deal expands on a previous agreement with Hasbro Studios and gives Netflix’s US platform exclusive streaming rights to Littlest Pet Shop and Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters. The former debuts in the summer, while Kaijudo has gone live.

Also included in the deal is My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, Transformers Prime and Transformers Rescue Bots. New seasons of each shows will launch one month after their finales on Hasbro’s children’s cable channel The Hub.

Furthermore, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, Transformers Prime, Pound Puppies and The Adventures of Chuck & Friends have gone live in Canada for the first time. Transformers Rescue Bots, Kaijudo and Littlest Pet Shop will launch later in the year.

“In a very competitive field, Hasbro Studios has risen to become a major content player with shows that kids watch and families trust,” said Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos.

Netflix has significantly bolstered its kids’ offering in the past few years and in February teamed with DreamWorks to create its first original series in the genre, a spin-off of upcoming feature film Turbo.

Netflix claims subscribers streamed more than two billion hours of children’s content on the platform last year.
