A+E Networks and Canal+ Group will launch “multiple channels” in the second part of 2013 as part of a long-term strategic partnership between the two firms in France.
The channels will launch through the Planet+ factual group on the CanalSat pay TV platform with exclusive access to A+E Networks’ catalogue of factual entertainment programming.
A+E Networks will continue to distribute its content through Canal+ Group’s DTT channels D8 and D17, which it launched last year. The two firms said they will also work together to develop digital opportunities in France.
“We have enjoyed a successful content relationship across D8 and the Planete+ channels, and we believe this new partnership will create significant growth opportunities for both companies,” said Dean Possenniskie, managing director, EMEA, A+E Networks.
“This agreement will enable us to significantly enhance our offer of programs and promote one of the best international factual and entertainment brands to our subscribers,” added Canal+ director of factual channels Olivier Stroh.
A+E said the partnership completes its Western European footprint of networks, but would not give more details at this stage about the planned channels. The firm currently operates 57 channels outside the US in over 150 territories, reaching more than 330 million subscribers in 38 languages.
