Julia Stiles partners with WIGS on second web series

Fox-backed YouTube drama channel WIGS has ordered a new four-part series from actress Julia Stiles, and recommissioned two others.

Paloma will star Grace Gummer (Gigantic, Margin Call) as a young woman dealing with unpredictable relationships at home and at work. Stiles writes and directs, with Rhys Coiro (Entourage) and Garret Dillahunt (Raising Hope) also attached.

Blue, which stars Stiles as a single mother juggling parenthood with a secret life as an escort, is returning for a 26-episode second season, as is Lauren, which looks into the consequences of sexual misconduct in the military.

Director-producers Jon and Jake Avnet and Rodrigo Garcia launched female-skewing WIGS last year as part of YouTube’s professional content channel push. It has since become the top-rated drama channel on the platform with more than 108,000 subscribers and 25 million video views as of this morning.

Last month, the web net entered into a multi-year pact with Fox encompassing programming, marketing and distribution. The pact aims to expand WIGS’ reach and act as a test bed for new dramatic concepts and talent.

“The consumer feedback has been inspiring, and we expect this season to be even more spectacular than the first,” said Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, senior VP, multi-platform programming at Fox.
