FX orders more Americans

US cable network FX has ordered a second season of Cold War drama The Americans.

The first series is currently going out on FX in the US and, four episodes in, the channel has placed an order for a new, thirteen episode season.

The show was the most-watched debut of any FX series ever with 5.11 million total viewers (including catch-up).

After four installments, the series is averaging 3.63 million total viewers and 1.87 million in the 18-49 demo.

The Americans has quickly established itself as a key part FX’s acclaimed drama line-up,” said John Landgraf, president and general manager, FX Networks.

The scripted series is set in 1981 after Ronald Reagan is elected president and follows two married KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington D.C.

It is produced by Fox Television Studios and FX Productions and distributed by Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, which has already sold it to ITV in the UK.
