BBC launches Android sport app

UK broadcaster the BBC has launched a version of its sport app for Android devices.

Viewers can now get access to BBC Sport through the Android app, which the broadcaster said offered similar functionality to its previously launched iOS app. The new app. is compatible with Android versions 2.2 Froyo and above.

It offers top stories and breaking news, live text commentaries on football fixtures and other major sports events and the daily Sportsday live service, a new football section including fixtures, results and live scores, pages for all UK football matches and football transfer gossip, live video streaming and clips accessible through the app’s media asset pages and the ability to share pages via email, Facebook and Twitter.

The app supports playback of audio and video clips and live video within the app on Android versions 2.2 and above, meaning that users with some handsets will have to install the BBC Media Player to view video separately.

The app will be made available via the Google Play Store soon.
