BBC America buys ITV drama Broadchurch

US cable network BBC America has acquired Broadchurch, the upcoming British drama series starring David Tennant (Doctor Who).

In the UK the show, which is being made by Spooks producer Kudos, will air on commercial network ITV’s flagship ITV1 channel.

The ensemble drama focuses on a small town that it thrown into the media spotlight following the death of a young boy.

BBC America will show the eight-part series later this year as part of its Dramaville block.

Kudos is part of the News Corp.-owned Shine group and the show is distributed by Shine International, the company’s sales division.
