Smithsonian Channel moves into reality with LA Frock Stars

The Smithsonian Channel is moving into the reality genre after it commissioned its first unscripted series LA Frock Stars.

The broadcaster, which is a joint venture between US cable network Showtime and the Smithsonian Institution, has ordered the six part series from Fox-owned New Zealand producer NHNZ. It is a coproduction with BBC Worldwide and the Smithsonian Channel.

The series follows Hollywood vintage retailer Doris Raymond and her LA store The Way We Wore and also includes stylists including George Kotsiopoulis and Jennifer Rade.

“Doris Raymond is an American original. Her eye for vintage fashion is respected by some of the biggest names in fashion and show business,” said David Royle, executive vice president, programming and production, Smithsonian Channel. “She not only knows how to help a star make a splash on the red carpet, she also has a gift for identifying some of the world’s most exciting and intriguing historical artifacts. The Smithsonian Institution has long maintained a collection of historical fashions, most notably the First Lady dresses. We are delighted to bring LA Frock Stars to our viewers.”
