Content sells Irish drama Amber to Netflix and international broadcasters

Distributor Content Television has shopped Irish drama series Amber to a host of international broadcasters and to Netflix in the US.

The series, which was made by Irish producer Screenworks for free-to-air broadcaster RTE, has been bought by a host of broadcasters including DR in Denmark, SVT in Sweden, Super Channel in Canada and Hot in Israel. In Latin America DirecTV has picked up the rights and in Brazil Globosat has acquired the show.

The four-part drama was created by Rob Cawley and Paul Duane (Secret Diary of a Call Girl). Set in Dublin, it uses non-linear structure to tell the story of this disappearance of a 14-year-old, Amber.

In the wake of the deals, the creators said: “The structure of the story is highly effective in drawing audiences in over the four episodes and unexpected twists will keep viewers guessing what happened to Amber until the very end – creating a very involving drama that is perfect for international primetime schedules.”
