BBC cuts huge kids programming deal with Al Jazeera

BBC Worldwide and Al Jazeera have agreed a deal for almost 200 hours of new kids programming.

The wide-ranging deal between the commercial arm of the UK public broadcaster and the Qatari state-backed channel operator covers different genres and categories of programming from preschool to tween.

Worldwide has previously sold programming to Al Jazeera Children’s Channel, but this is the largest programming deal to date between the pair.

Titles covered in the agreement include Deadly 60, MI High, Baby Jake and The Adventures of Abney and Teal.

The deal also covers all episodes of hit series In the Night Garden, which the Arab broadcaster has relicensed.

Rashed Al Qurese, acting director of sales and media rights, Al Jazeera Children’s Channel said: “This new selection of creative and intelligent series will expand on our schedule of programming that children will love and parents will trust.”
