Former 2waytraffic and Sony Pictures Television boss Kees Abrahams has created Imagine Nation, a new TV, film and live events company with theatre impresario Robin de Levita.

The new firm’s non-executive chairman will be another ex-Sony employee, Chris Pye, who has also worked at the BBC and ITV in the UK.

Imagine Nation plans to make acquisitions as well as exploit it own intellectual property.

It will be based in Amsterdam, New York and London.

The plan, the company said, is to follow the path set out by 2waytraffic, which acquired IP including Who Wants to be a Millionaire, before floating and then being bought by Sony for £130 million.

“In an increasingly complex entertainment industry it is becoming ever more challenging for great ideas to break through on the international stage,” said Abrahams, who was president of international production at SPT, before announcing his departure last September.

He added: “Robin and I have created a dynamic and digitally-enabled media business which will work with IP and content partners across the world to help drive the global success of content with high growth potential.”

Robin de Levita is a well-known theatre producer.

He said: “The new company will provide a great platform to develop and exploit content across multiple genres and distribution platforms, including second screen and online. Imagine Nation also aims to be at the forefront of incorporating new technical solutions into traditional forms of media.”
