Ovation adds more British imports

US cable network Ovation has acquired British drama Blackout after striking a deal with BBC Worldwide.

This is the latest British import for the broadcaster, which has recently picked up ITV Studios’ Bouquet of Barbed Wire, FremantleMedia’s Laconia and is coproducing TV movie Doors Open with the American arm of the British public broadcaster.

Ovation will launch the three part series, which is produced by Red Production Company, in October.

The series stars Christopher Eccleston as a corrupt councilman who wakes up covered in blood after a blackout, where he may have beaten a man to death in a booze fueled rage.

“We’re always on the lookout for compelling, artfully told dramas and this is a prime example,” said Kris Slava, SVP of programming, Ovation. “Blackout is a darkly moral story with plenty of plot twists and soul-searching by its protagonist. Christopher Eccleston gives a wrenching performance and is surrounded by a top-notch cast. We think this will be another great discovery for our viewers as they increasingly look to Ovation for programming that is beyond the ordinary.”
