Shaftesbury launching animated series Mighty Mighty Monsters

Canadian producer and distributor Shaftesbury has teamed with Vancouver-based animation studio Bron Animation to launch Mighty Mighty Monsters at MIPJunior.

The two companies are launching the project, which was written by Sean Patrick O’Reilly, in Cannes. Debbie Macdonald, formerly programming director at Nickelodeon UK, is consulting with Bron Animation on the series.

They are bringing two 44 minute specials – Halloween Havoc and New Fears Eve – to market. The series is being executive produced by Bron’s Gil Rimmer and Ben Burden Smith, directed by Toy Story 2 animator Adam Wood and written by Baxter’s Scott Oleszkowicz.

The story follows a group of monster kids who must try and fit in at a normal school after being expelled from Monster Academy. It features original music by Canadian band Broken Social Scene.

“Mighty Mighty Monsters represents Shaftesbury’s commitment to highly popular entertainment for kids and families,” said Shane Kinnear, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Shaftesbury. “Its combination of high production values and tremendous humour will make it an appealing property for the international marketplace.”
