Sutter sets up Diva. Clown. Killer at FX

Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is developing black comedy Diva. Clown. Killer at US network FX.

This comes a few weeks after he told TBI that he had a number of new projects in development and was branching out from traditional drama.

The series, which he will exec produce with his wife and Sons of Anarchy star Katey Sagal, tells the story of a 1980s rock diva and her dysfunctional son, who makes his living as a clown and assassin.

“I look at SOA as being an intense drama, where the murder and mayhem are made palatable by absurd, dark humor,” Sutter said in a statement. “This half-hour will be an absurd, dark comedy, where the story is fueled by murder and mayhem.”

At the end of June, he tweeted: “I just sold a pitch to FX that is so fucking out there, it even scares me.”

Sutter told TBI that he was constantly developing ideas for both cable and network television. “A component of my deal at 20th is development so I’m always looking to develop new ideas for either me or other writers. I’ve got a couple of scripted projects in development,” he said. “My sensibilities lie in the cable world, but [another] component of my deal with 20th is if a project better fits broadcast, I’m open to that. It’s a bit more of challenge, but I’m not closed to that,” he added.
