The Weather Channel strikes passionate distribution deal

US cable network The Weather Channel has struck an international distribution deal with Passion Distribution for its slate of original factual series.

The broadcaster has been growing its primetime schedule with a number of documentary series including Iron Men and Braving The Elements.

Passion already distributed The Weather Channel’s Lifeguard! through a deal with LMNO Productions.

Iron Men, which is produced by Mega Structures producer Pipeline39 is a docuseries that profiles the iron workers who battle weather conditions above New York City to build skyscrapers, bridges and arenas. Meanwhile, Braving The Elements follows a number of professionals that work in extreme weather conditions.

The deal was struck by Passion CEO Sally Miles and The Weather Channel’s SVP of business development David Shipps.

“Viewers in the United States have responded to Iron Men and all of the Braving the Elements shows and we think the engaging stories of characters who work outside, in extreme weather conditions, will appeal to an international audience as well,” said Shipps.

Miles added: “We are so excited to be working with The Weather Channel. They have impressed our international industry with their move into these really strong, big budget factual series. The genre and subject does incredibly well for large global mainstream broadcasters and so we can’t wait to present this first new slate at MIPCOM in October.”
