Discovery orders pair of military series from UK indie WMR

Discovery has ordered two series for its Military Channel from World Media Rights, the indie producer chaired by Andrew Neil.

The Military Channel, which is distributed in the US, has commissioned Top Secret Weapons Revealed and Black Ops (WT).

Top Secret Weapons Revealed  is a 6x50mins series about outlandish weapons that various military forces have developed including a bomb piloted by pigeons and a giant Catherine Wheel that was designed by the British army for the D Day landings in World War Two.

“We loved the fact that World Media Rights secured previously unseen footage of the testing of some of these strange and unknown weapons systems for Top Secret Weapons Revealed,” said Ed Hersh, senior VP of content strategy for Military Channel.

BBC Worldwide will sell the show internationally.

Black Ops, meanwhile, is a six-part series about high-profile covert special forces missions. It is currently in production.
