MTV developing series from Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus producer

US cable network MTV is developing a paranormal mockbuster series from the creators of cult hit Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus.

The Viacom-owned broadcaster is developing the series about ghosts following the success of paranormal-themed feature films including Paranormal Activity, The Women In Black and Insidious.

“Given the growth of the company and our unique spin, a year or so ago we were approached by MTV to do a series, which we now have in development,” The Asylum partner David Rimawi told TBI.

The move came after a number of MTV employees had seen The Asylum’s most notorious film Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus with its infamous scene of a giant shark eating the Golden Gate bridge.

This is The Asylum’s first move into series television; the company produces 10 to 15 feature films per year and has worked with cable nets SyFy and Lifetime on one-off television movies in the past. It is known for its mockbuster titles including Snakes on a Train, Dead Walking and Abraham Lincoln Versus Zombies.

“The title is probably one of the most important elements. It’s especially important on video-on-demand services,” added consultant David Garber.
