Spike launches new series, eyes int’l commissions

US cable network Spike TV is launching two new police series as part of its latest slate of original programming.

Separately, Tom Zappala, the company’s executive vice president, programming, told TBI that it was looking to increase the amount of international content on the channel.

The Viacom-owned network is launching Undercover Stings, a half hour series set in the dangerous world of undercover police work, produced by the team behind Cops. It is also launching new episodes of World’s Wildest Police Videos, produced by Pilgrim Studios and Pursuit Productions.

Zappala, who joined the broadcaster last year from ABC Family, said that it was looking to build on the success of original series including Ink Masters with new global commissions and acquisitions.

“Our mandate is to increase commissions. We now have four nights of original programming and we’re looking at ways to work with international content. It’s ever more important to look internationally,” he said.
