MIPTV claims 11,000 delegates for 2012 market

The organisers of MIPTV say that 11,000 delegates attended the market in Cannes this week.

Reed Midem published the figures as the show, which started a day early this year, came to a close. It reported 4,000 buyers from 100 countries were in town.

Of that total, 200 came from China as the world’s most populous country was in the spotlight. State broadcastrer CCTV inked a programming deal with its French counterpart France Télévisions and another with UK public broadcaster the BBC.

There were 1,220 international production companies in Cannes of which 326 were at their first market, as the organisers offered discounted rates to attract first-time attendees.

MIPDoc, the factual market and conference that preceded MIPTV, was attended by 700 delegates, Reed Midem said.

Tech and new media conference MIPCube also ran ahead of MIPTV and had 500 delegates. The third edition of the MIPFormats conference, meanwhile, had 600 participants from 54 countries.
