J:Com expands original production effort with Asmik Ace

Jupiter Telecommunications is expanding into original TV production with the acquisition of producer and distributor Asmik Ace Entertainment.

The cable company hopes the deal will allow it to ramp up its development of original content for its 17 television channels.

Asmik Ace has produced and invested in films including Norwegian Wood and The Shock Labyrinth as well as Japanese horror franchise The Ring. It has also distributed international features including Trainspotting, Scream and Transporter.

“By acquiring the planning and production capabilities of Asmik Ace, J:COM intends to enhance its original content development capabilities, and expand its business through supporting movie distribution business and content production,” J:Com said in a statement.
