Hulu and Netflix examine Russian market

Russian newspaper Vedomosti is reporting that executives from streaming services Hulu and Netflix have met with Russian content owners and technical companies with a view to launching in the country.

The paper says that Hulu’s senior VP, Johannes Larcher, was in the country attending these meetings and assessing the demand for streaming services.

It added that the US companies interest in Russia has been prompted by its entry into the World Trade Organisation and research showing that Russians watch more online video than citizens from any other country in Europe.

Vedemosti quotes the CEO of Russian online video site RuTube as saying that Hulu will seek out a local partner with a large content library if it does launch in the country.
