Breaking Bad’s Gilligan strikes Sony deal

Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan has inked an overall production deal with Sony Pictures Television that covers the last season of the AMC series as well as a range of new projects.

Gilligan’s previous deal ended with the fourth season of the drug drama and this new arrangement, which runs through to June 2013, covers the final season of the show.

The deal will also cover development and Gilligan is expected to work on new TV and film projects at the Hollywood studio when the show finishes. He told TBI last year that he is hoping to make a quirky comedy about racism, called Two Face, after the show.

However, he admits: “Breaking Bad is a tough act to follow.”

With future television projects, former X-Files writer Gilligan would be likely to stick in the world of cable television. “The cable world is a godsend for me because it allows for a system where thirteen episodes are the norm and that’s far more achievable for someone like me who wants to oversee everything,” he added.
