Banijay and Constantin making first-ever scripted reality show in Spain

France-based Banijay is teaming with Germany’s Constantin to make the first ever scripted reality series for the Spanish TV market.

The as-yet-unnamed series will stretch to thirty episodes and be coproduced by Banijay’s Spanish production company Cuarzo and Constantin Entertainment

It will air on one of Mediaset’s Spanish channels – the Italian media company has stakes in free-to-air broadcasters Telecinco and Cuatro as well as pay TV service Digital+. It will bow this spring.

Constantin has enjoyed success with the genre with Judge Alexander Hold popular in its domestic German market and Family Stories a hit in Greece and Poland and has been remade in Croatia and Serbia.

The producers said the scripts for the Spanish series will follow themes used in existing Constantin scripted docs.

Pedro Rodriguez, Managing Director at Cuarzo Producciones said: “Having pioneered the genre in several other markets, we are confident that we have chosen a highly experienced partner to do this ‘hot’ genre justice in Spain. We are excited that the long term deal gives us the opportunity to really learn from Constantin.”
