Zodiak inks development deal with Asylum

Zodiak Rights, the distribution arm of Zodiak Media, has inked a new development deal with US indie producer Asylum.

Zodiak and Asylum had an earlier first-look deal, inked in 2008, but that expired a couple of years ago and the new deal runs to two years.

Under the terms of the agreement Zodiak will sell content from the LA-based production company in international markets. The deal covers Asylum’s unscripted formats and finished shows and Zodiak said that the first launch under the terms of the new deal will be Travel Unraveled, the 10x30mins series for US cable net Travel Channel. It will launch at MIP TV.

Zodiak has also distributed some of Asylum’s scripted content in the past including French cop drama Braquo.

Jane Millichip managing director, Zodiak Rights, said: “We’re delighted to become Asylum’s official international partner. Steve Michaels and Jonathan Koch have created a rich seam of high quality, popular programming with strong international appeal.”

“This is a milestone partnership for Asylum,” says Steve Michaels, Asylum Entertainment president and CEO. “Zodiak knows our product, knows our market, and will be essential as we scale the reach of our programming beyond the US.”
