LoveFilm inks on-demand deal with Disney

Amazon’s LoveFilm has inked a deal with Disney for its ABC TV On Demand service.

The ABC subscription VOD service launches this month on Lovefilm, allowing its customers to access Disney scripted series such as all six seasons of Lost and other shows including Castle, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy and Ghost Whisperer.

Shows on ABC On Demand are available after their first run on UK pay or free TV meaning that new Disney series will be available via LoveFilm ahead of launching on Netflix, which has just launched in the UK and has a content deal with Disney for older product.

Netflix has deals with CBS, Disney, Fox, NBC and Paramount. LoveFilm has deals with Disney, Sony, Warner Bros.

“Today’s deal with Disney brings them access to some of the best American TV content ever produced,” said Simon Calver, CEO of LoveFilm.
