Cineflix poaches Playtone’s Kite

Cineflix Studios has poached former Playtone exec Miura Kite to head up its nascent scripted development studio.

The company has hired Kite as executive vice president, Cineflix Studios and she will oversee development in the company’s Los Angeles office. She will report to Cineflix Studios president Christina Wayne.

Kite was previously head of development at The Playtone Company, the production company set up by Tom Hanks. She worked on series including HBO mini-series The Pacific as well as Big Love and John Adams.

Cineflix is boosting its scripted department and recently announced its first commission, crime drama Copper for BBC America. It is also development The Command for US cable network TNT.

“I’m thrilled to have Miura join Cineflix Studios’ push into the scripted series business,” said Wayne. “I’ve always admired her taste and ability to craft material. Miura’s experience on such phenomenal shows such as The Pacific and Big Love made it clear that she fits perfectly with our mandate of quality programming.”
