YouTube launches more than 100 channels

YouTube is launching more than 100 digital channels from a raft of international producers and distributors including Electus, Lionsgate and FremantleMedia.

The Google-owned online video platform will launch these sites, which will consist largely of original digital content, over the next twelve months.

FremantleMedia is launching a pets and animals channels; Ben Silverman’s Electus is launching three channels including a Latin channel, a food network and a pop culture themed net; CSI creator Anthony Zuiker is launching Black Box TV; Lionsgate is launching a fitness channel; Ashton Kutcher’s Katalyst is launching Thrash Lab and Michael Eisner-owned Vuguru is partnering with Pow! Entertainment to launch Stan Lee’s World of Heroes.

Other partners including The Wall Street Journal, The Onion, Vice, Magical Elves, WWE, TED, Red Bull, Pitchfork, Mondo Media, Hearst, Eqal and BermanBraun.

Robert Kyncl, global head of content partnerships, YouTube, said: “Today we’re announcing that even more talented creators and original entertainment will soon join YouTube’s existing channel lineup, including channels created by well-known personalities and content producers from the TV, film, music, news, and sports fields, as well as some of the most innovative up-and-coming media companies in the world and some of YouTube’s own existing partners. These channels will have something for everyone, whether you’re a mom, a comedy fan, a sports nut, a music lover or a pop-culture maven.”
