FX orders Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management

US cable network FX has ordered Charlie Sheen’s new sitcom Anger Management. The deal could see the network pick up 100 episodes as part of a syndication-style deal.

FX has initially ordered 10 episodes of the comedy from Lionsgate-owned distributor Debmar-Mercury and if it hits certain ratings targets, the News Corp-backed cable broadcaster will pick up an additional 90 episodes. This is similar to deals that the distributor has struck for Tyler Perry sitcoms and Ice Cub’s Are We There Yet?

Lionsgate will handle international distribution.

The series is a television remake of the Jack Nicholson-fronted 2003 movie and is former Two and a Half Men star Sheen’s first television role since his well publicized breakdown. The Drew Carey Show’s Bruce Helford has signed on as showrunner and it will be produced by Revolution Studios, Evolution Management, Ramon Estevez and Estevez Sheen Productions and Lionsgate Television.

“We think that Bruce Helford, Joe Roth and Charlie Sheen have come up with a wonderful, hilarious vehicle for Charlie’s acting talents – and a character we are very much looking forward to seeing him play. Two and a Half Men has been an outstanding component of FX’s schedule for the past 14 months, and we have every confidence that Anger Management will soon be as well,” said John Landgraf, president and general manager, FX Networks.
