Exclusive: The Killing producer developing new crime drama
Danmarks Radio is developing a new white collar crime series from the producer of hit Scandi thriller The Killing.
DR’s Piv Bernth, who is the executive producer of Forbrydelsen and has worked closely with creator Søren Sveistrup since its inception, told TBIvision that it is already working on another follow up.
It will launch Follow The Money, an economic-tinged crime drama, in 2015. “If you want to solve the crime, you have to follow the money,” said Bernth.
Bernth, who was speaking at MIPCOM on a conference session titled Must See Television: The Killing that was moderated by TBI, added: “The one thing that we look for is high quality, distinctive, original [drama], whether that’s crime drama or any other genre. It just happens that we’ve had this rich vein of crime drama. But we’re really open to anything else.”
Danish public broadcaster DR is investing heavily in drama following the international success of The Killing. It has already announced projects including Veronica, period drama 1864 and is working on a second season of Borgen (Government).
Bernth, who is currently senior producer at the broadcaster’s drama department DR Fiktion, will become head of drama at the corporation following the departure of Ingolf Gabold in April 2012.
