The CW acquires French Gaga doc

The CW has acquired Can’t Stop Media’s documentary Gaga by Gaultier, marking the first time that a US network has picked up a French programme.

Gaga by Gaultier, which sees the famous fashion designer Jean Paul Gauliter interviewing Lady Gaga, was produced by French indie Dak Tirak for TF6.

Can’t Stop Media, the international distribution company set up by former Zodiak exec Matthieu Porte, subsequently picked up the global rights and shopped it to XYZ Networks (Australia), RTBF (Belgium), Globosat (Brazil), SBS (Denmark) and Sky Uno (Italy).

However, the US deal is a hugely significant step for French producers and distributors who have previously struggled to get their finished series on air in the US.

“Since the launch of the company, it’s been in our core strategy to build-up strong relationships with US broadcasters. In the past few years, foreign programming has gained a huge traction across the Atlantic and we will continue to strive to take full advantage of this trend for the various partners who trust us with their properties,” said Porte.
